Cultural of Bamboo

The bamboo will be assigned different symbolic meanings. He is, for example, in China as a symbol of long life, in India, however, a symbol of friendship. In the Philippines, bamboo crosses for farmers are set up as a lucky charm.

In Japan, bamboo is also a term with positive. Bamboo grows very straight, and because of its fresh green color, it is a symbol of purity. He appears as a symbol on together with pine branches and plum blossoms. The three plants are used not only as good luck symbols, but also to such as sushi at various scales (select from bottom to top: sho - chiku - bai, temporomandibular - Bamboo - plum). At the end of the year is placed on each side of the front door of a container bamboo and pine branches, to bring luck ("Kadomatsu).

Since bamboo blooms only rarely and the seeds were eaten primarily during times of famine, the bamboo flowering in some cultures as a harbinger of famine is interpreted.

In some Asian cultures, for example, in the Andamans, it is assumed that humanity has come out in their formation of a bamboo tube. In Malaysia and Japan, there are legends about a young (and very small) woman who lives in a bamboo tube and appears when the tube is capped (Taketori Monogatari).
