Salvia splendens

The Scarlet Sage (Salvia splendens) is a species of the genus Sage (Salvia). The original range of the species is located in Brazil, but it is widely used as garden and patio plant in temperate and tropical areas.

The Scarlet Sage is an annual, herbaceous, or achieved as a shrub growing plant, the height of up to one meter. Mostly it is branching to the upper portions of the branches have fine hairs in the lower part but glabrous or nearly glabrous. The leaves have long petioles, the leaf blade is ovate, pointed to the front and rounded at the base. The leaf margin is serrate.

The inflorescences consist of one-to three-flowered whorls, which in turn are arranged in a dense or more or less interrupted spike. The large, scarlet-colored bracts are not resistant. The scarlet cup is also inflated to flower, membranous, and 15-20 mm long. The crown is colored scarlet, its corolla tube is 30-40 mm long and extended to the top. The lower lip of the crown has a length of about 7 mm. The style is glabrous.

The original home of the fire sage is Brazil. As an ornamental plant is the kind worldwide and is cultivated in temperate and tropical areas in different altitudes.
