The Thorny restharrow (Ononis spinosa), whether women or war Eindorn called, is a species of the genus Hauhecheln, which belongs to the pea family (Faboideae). Because of difficulties of classification, it is sometimes with creeping restharrow (Ononis repens) and the goat-restharrow (Ononis arvensis) of species group "Ononis spinosa agg. Together."

The Thorny restharrow is a 10-80 cm high, winter bare shrub (chamaephytes) with horizontal to ascending, basal woody, thorny stems. These are most clearly from the middle row, row, or rarely at the top on all sides, hairy and red. The toothed leaves are pinnate triadic, at the tip of the branches also simple. The middle part of leaf is at least twice, often three to four times as long as wide. Which also toothed stipules are shorter than the petiole. The stem thorns are often in pairs. The flowers stand singly in the leaf axils, and their petals are dyed pink.

The plants bloom from April to September with one to three flowers butterfly sitting on short shoots, which in the leaf axils on stalks spring and branch ends. This moderately dense flower clusters arise. The individual flowers are between 1 and 2.2 cm in length and reddish-pink or light violet color. The flag of the flowers is on the outside slightly glandular hairs and veined dark streaks. The calyx is long and also partly glandular hairs.

After flowering form inflated pods that are about 1 cm long and 0.5 cm in width, these are glandular hairy. The nature is deeply rooted with strong, long tap roots to 50 cm.
