Jiaogulan

Gynostemma pentaphyllum, known by the name of Jiaogulan (Chinese 绞股蓝 / 绞股蓝, jiǎogǔlán "trailing indigo plant") is a climbing plant of the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae).
Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a climbing, annual to perennial, slender herbaceous plant, hairy fine to verkahlend Wuchslängen and reached 4-8 meters. It forms tubers than Überdauerungsorgan. The tendrils are forked, rarely simple. The membranous to papery are, nearly symmetrical, odd pinnate leaves simple to foot-shaped leaves composed of five to seven oval and on reverse-egg-shaped to lanceolate form. The terminal leaflet is 4-14 cm long and 2-5 inches wide, all the other smaller. The leaves are acute to obtuse at the tip, at base obtuse to wedge-shaped and sharpened on the edge irregularly serrate, hairy when, especially along the venation.

The species is dioecious, unisexual. The inflorescences are up to 30 cm long and pendulous. The flowers are marked with small bracts, the calyx triangular sections 0.5 to 2 centimeters long, the yellowish-green Kronlappen triangular-lanceolate and 2-3 mm long.

The fruits are round and smooth berries with a diameter of 5-8 mm, which are dark green to almost black when ripe.
