Deutzien

The Deutzien (Deutzia) are a genus of the family Hydrangeaceae (Hydrangeaceae). Some types of pipe work closely with the shrubs (Philadelphus) related species are popular ornamental plants.

Description

These are mostly small deciduous shrubs. The stalked leaves are toothed. The inflorescences are panicles zymöse, the cyme are Dichasien.

Barren flowers are missing. The five sepals are keyed on top. The five petals are arranged like roof tiles or keyed-up spatula and egg-shaped white to pink.

The filaments of 10-15 stamens are awl-shaped to linear and forked at the far end, which are Stylodien unverwachsen. The inferior ovary is three to fünffächrig, the ovules are arranged crosswise. The fruit is a capsule. The numerous, 0.5 to 3 mm long seeds are winged.

Dissemination

The distribution of the genus is disjunctive and ranges from Mexico to Asia (including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, China) to the Himalaya. Center of diversity is China.
