National Day of Iceland Celebrations Occasion

National Day of Iceland (Icelandic: Þjóðhátíðardagurinn) and in Iceland on June 17, is on a holiday in the country. In 1944, this national day of the Republic of Iceland (Lýðveldið Island) is an independent state and the separation from the Kingdom of Denmark is celebrated.

June 17 was chosen because of the history as one of the main figures in the Icelandic culture and 19 century Icelandic independence movement leader because that is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson'in.


History

Germans, despite the invasion of Denmark, Iceland declared independence with politicians to end, they waited for the Second World War.
